Sharing a folder from Windows 7 to Ubuntu VM

As the title reads I wanted to mount successfully a Windows 7 folder inside an Ubuntu 12 VM.

1 – Power down the VM, not suspend but power off.

2 – In the VM settings ensure that the folder sharing is set to “always enabled”:

3 –  Add a folder for the VM to pick up, press “Add” from the above pic and follow the on screen prompts (obv. not checking the option reading “read only”)
4 – Now reload the virtual machine and log in with root permissions (sudo su or su).
5 – Make a hgfs dir in mnt:
cd /mnt
mkdir hgfs
6 – Install open-vm-tools
apt-get install open-vm-tools

accept all the default options when installing open-vm-tools

7 -Run the following command:
vmware-config-tools.pl

accept all the default options

8 – That is it. You should now be able to see the shared folders in /mnt/hgfs folder.
